Before you said goodbye

Before you said goodbye

In that moment before you said goodbye, time slowed to a tick, each heartbeat pounding like a metal drum inside my chest.

The air thick with woozy anticipation, and as you turn to leave, the waft of burning rubber pierces the air, a sharp, acrid reminder of the fact that I will never ever see you again.

Screeching tyres slam into my ears, already feeling the space around your absence, a silent void lingering in the air. The moment hangs, suspended in time, before reality rushes back into me with the roar of your engine hurtling towards the open road.
